A note about viewing the prints:
It would be wonderful
if everybody’s monitor would show an image with exactly the same colors, but this just isn’t possible. These images were created in a carefully calibrated environment and there is a very good match between the
finished print and the computer image. Unfortunately, I do not know what YOUR monitor will show and the images may display incorrectly. The most obvious difference will be in brightness and contrast settings. If the
images show too dark, please adjust your monitor. “Trees, Beth Chatto Garden” is a particular case in point. It is a dark print, but it has a wealth of detail that is hard to show on a monitor. A second, unavoidable
problem occurs because several of the prints have a texture that is reminiscent of the typical signature of old etchings or aquatints. “Portpatrick 1”, for example, has a dotted, linear pattern over much of its area. A reduction in size to fit the screen causes moiré patterns to be formed which, at the least, give a false impression of the print. Apart from these two points, the images show quite well on the web and it is a wonderful way to disseminate one’s work. See the note about ordering a CD below.
